Idromed 5 PS Iontophoresis

The effective iontophoresis therapy is for treating those with hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.

The Idromed® 5 PS is based on the effect of medium-frequency pulsating direct current and is to be used for patients/users with thin or sensitive skin, such as children or young women; and those with at least Level 3 hyperhidrosis.

Iontophoresis is rated as the optimum therapy method in treating hyperhidrosis at the hands, feet and armpits.

How To Set Up
How To

If possible, treatment should be performed once a day initially. Treatment should last 10-15 minutes, depending on the doctor’s prescription. Normally, after 10 -15 treatments, a normal hydrosis level is reached and the skin moisture is normalized. The intervals of treatment should now be extended gradually. (1st week – every 2 days, 2nd week – every 3 days, until there is just one treatment per week). Further instructions are detailed in the User Manual. It is strongly recommended to read the User Manual before you begin using Dr Honle Idromed 5 GS.

Treatments are performed using tap water.

Keeping a patient diary is a makor contributing factor to the success of iontophoresis treatment. Documenting the application helps your physician assess the treatment and, if necessary, to optimize the course of therapy. A recorded treatment history also helps in showing when the electrodes were changed.

In scientific studies, the pulsed direct current therapy with the Idromed® 5 PS is rated as the optimum therapy. Thanks to its new current type, the therapy is improved for very sensitive patients, children and young adults. For users below 18 years old, we recommended the 5 PS model due to its pulsed current delivery.

The Idromed® is compatible with tap water. Speak to your doctor if any additional solution is needed for your condition.
Just like using an electric toothbrush, it might feel uncomfortable at the beginning but gets better with prolonged use. The sensation can be described as ‘pins and needles’ and will slowly fade away the more you use it.

The Idromed®is used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis on the hands, feet and armpits.

Typically, after 10 to 15 treatments, a normal hydrous level is reached and the skin moisture is normalized.

Iontophoresis will not cure the symptoms permanently but it is one of the safest and most cost-saving methods in treating hyperhidrosis in the long-run. Weekly treatments can help control the sweat therefore buying a personal unit for convenience is advisable, if the treatment works for you.

Side effects are uncommon and short-lived. Some users report experiencing:

  • bruising or blisters if the current is set too high
  • a mild burning sensation if the electrode is touched
  • a mild electric shock sensation if the hands or feet are removed from the trays during treatment, commonly known as the “electric fence effect”
  • thickening of the skin when treated too frequently. This can be managed by reducing treatment frequency
  • itchiness at the treatment site for a short time after treatment
